technologies. working in small teams, you'll develop efficient
algorithms for processing huge amounts of data. you'll build
highly-scalable distributed systems that run on the lastminute cluster.

Search and personalization infrastructure developer

Purpose of role:

Development role within the technical team implementing the
high-performance core of Lastminute's next-generation search and
personalization platform, building scalable and highly available
systems for processing tremendous amounts of data on the lastminute
cluster. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for development of key components of our next-generation
search and personalization platform; building low-level code in
conjunction with the platform architect.  Algorithm and code
development, tuning, review and testing on a range of platforms (32 and
64 bit)  

Educational background & specialist skills
# Degree in computer science or numerate discipline, MS/MSc 
  degree preferred, PhD a bonus
# Several years developing/designing large software systems with
  extensive experience programming in C or other systems languages
# Low-level performance tuning 
# Developing or porting code to 64-bit platforms
# Development within a Unix or Linux environment
# Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures
# Knowledge of a range of higher level languages (Erlang, Lisp, Java,
  Python etc.) 
# Distributed systems and network programming

Search and personalization application developer

Purpose of role:

Development role within the technical team implementing
next-generation  search applications on our new high-performance search
and personalzation infrastructure.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for development of search and personalization
applications that take advantage of features unique to our new
infrastructure, taking applications from initial conception, to
implementation, to production deployment

Educational background & specialist skills
# Degree in computer science or numerate discipline, MS/MSc degree 
  preferred, PhD a bonus
# Several years developing/designing large software systems
# Knowledge representation and design skills
# Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures
# Knowledge of a range of languages and paradigms, including strong 
  Java, Python, C or Lisp skills 
# Machine learning and information retrieval experience a plus
# Distributed systems and network programming
