I'm also a self-taught programmer, and I've been looking unsuccessfully for
a developer job in the UK for over a year now (living in the US, UK/US dual
citizen). I think what makes it difficult in my situation (besides being
overseas) is that I've been working as the only Python developer in the
same company for 8 years - for senior roles companies want developers who
have had experience within a Python team, and 8 years experience is too
long to be considered for other roles.
