In the Python source (for 2.5) there should be a VS 2005 project. Have 
you tried updating this for VS 2008? (PCBuild8 folder I believe)

Subversion head should be buildable with VS 2008 which will be the 
default for Windows. (PCBuild9 folder I believe)
