You might want to look at metakit as well:

(And no, I havn't yet used it on a Mac, or at all for anything real)

And for the GUI, you might want o look at wxPython:

http://alldunn.com/wxPython/

For a Mac only GUI, it's not yet a good option, as the Mac version isn't
ready yet. The good news, however, is that it does look like it's going
to happen!!
