If you just want to *see* which events are sent around, there's a very 
handy tool from the people that make Lasso:

ftp://ftp.blueworld.com/Lasso251/LassoCaptureAE.hqx

It shows a window with the text of the events rushing by. It's a bit 
awkward in its interface, but it works.
I've found it very useful when figuring out python AE stuff.
