Thanks for replying, I am just reading the book "Python Essential 
Reference" with your foreword and have web pages opened on python.org 
right now!

Fink ( http://fink.sourceforge.net/ )  is an OpenSource project for 
Darwin and Mac OS X. It is a installer/de-installer, keeps a data 
base of installed packages, manages dependencies and updates, 
retrieves tar files from internet, etc. , etc. .

from my installation, concerning Python:

The 'i' in front of python-unstable 2.2a3.1 means the package is 
installed and up to date.

The installation does not relate to MacPython in that it is Python 
for Unix (the new Mac OS X is BSD-Unix based).
