Ah, you can't use 2.1 on OSX 10.1 or later without some surgery. I think 
2.1.1 will also not work out of the box. 2.1.2 will work, and is 
forthcoming soon, but if you have no serious reason to stick with the 2.1 
family I suggest you move to 2.2, which handles this correctly and is out 
since Christmas.

In OSX 10.1 Apple changed the way external symbols were resolved in 
dynamically loaded libraries and such, and this influences the building of 
Python dynamic modules.
