[Pythonmac-SIG] Tkinter strikes again

Folks,
new versions of _tkinter for Carbon and classic PPC are available in
http://www.cwi.nl/ftp/jack/python/mac/newer .

These versions require an installed Tcl/Tk 8.3.4, which you can get
via http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tcl/TclTk_8.3.4_WebInstall.bin
. Alternative installers are available through
http://tcl.sourceforge.net .

Unfortunately if you *don't* install Tcl/Tk, you get the error message
at a rather late stage: not when you're importing Tkinter but when you
first try to use it. And the message is rather cryptic, something like
"Cannot load init.tcl, maybe you need to install Tcl or set TCL_PATH".
Suggestions as to how to fix this are welcome.
