[Pythonmac-SIG] problems compiling Python 2.2.1 from source - pyexpat.c module failure

Expat configuration was a mess up until (and including) Python
2.2.1. For this reason the relevant expat source files will be
included in Python 2.3. For Python 2.2.X you have to get expat
yourself, but even then it doesn't always work out of the box,
as Bill found out.

The easiest solution is probably to hack up setup.py to make it
do the right thing.
