[Pythonmac-SIG] CVS compile error: bz2 --> out of date; rerun ranlib(1) (can't load from it)

This is happening to me too, and also for some other Apple-shipped 
libraries. Fortunately the fix is to do just what the error message 
says: run "sudo ranlib /usr/lib/libbz2.a" to fix it.
