I'm usually a lurker on this list, I'm not a developer I merely use 
Python for rapid numerical prototyping and some analysis.

I have to say that in some ways you are wrong.  I loathe the terminal.  
I use it every day but I loathe it (so much so that I am spending 
sometime trying to write an app that allows me to avoid it for the most 
part) until last year the only thing I could do was open the terminal 
but I have been using python for about 3 years (I think) so 2 is false

What you are bending over backwards to do is provide accessibility and 
it is never stupid for software developers to do that.  What is stupid 
is to imply that you user base is a bunch of elitists who don't mind 
doing things *The right way* and doing a release which alienates those 
users who migrated from OS 9 and have bugger all experience with UNIX 
(and don't really want to).

I'll shut up now :)
