John, Bob,

My apologies. Bob, of course, is right. I had run an X11 session and my 
.xinitrc added /sw/bin to my path. I have installed Python 2.3.4 via 
fink, and did not check my $PATH before replying to the list.
Without reference to fink's install, my info is the same as John 
presented--

Python 2.3 (#1, Sep 13 2003, 00:49:11)
[GCC 3.3 20030304 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 1495)] on darwin
