Success!  I moved my site-packages to /Library/Python/2.3 and rebuilt 
the symlink - everything works great now.

I _do_ remember that when I first installed wxPython I first noticed 
the /Library/Python/2.3 vs /System/Library/.../site-packages 
discrepancy.  I just assumed that this was a weird setup thing that 
Apple had done and I only noticed it when wx was installed.
