If you don't know you don't wanna know :-).

The idea of PackageManager was that a trusted platform maintainer  
would maintain a repository of Python packages that have been build  
*and tested* on OSX, basically Fink or Darwinports for Python  
packages. This would also include a nice GUI to make it easier for  
novices to install additional tested packages.

The downside is that the actual implementation has major issues, or  
"development opportunities". Most of those have been rehashed on this  
list in past. Sadly enough Jack doesn't seem to have much time to  
work on MacPython at the moment.

Bob's collection of installer packages is another implementation of  
that idea (but without the package selection GUI). He used to have a  
PackMan repository as well, but stopped maintaining that because of  
the issues with PackMan.
