I used to maintain packages of SPE on OS X: it was a nicely-designed
application but very unstable. It crashed constantly.

I've looked at the new version: it seems even more slick than before.
Not sure about how stable it is.

Komodo (commercial IDE from ActiveState) is now available on OS X, has
excellent Python support, runs natively (e.g. no X11), and is a real
bargain (the personal/non-commercial version is around $30 USD).
