gcc3.3 works fine on OS X Intel, but only if you give it -arch i386.  
The Xcode one doesn't ship with an i386 cc1.

$ gcc-3.3 -o tmp tmp.c
gcc-3.3: installation problem, cannot exec `cc1': No such file or  
directory
