Why build Python 2.7.1 from source? Just download the 32-bit-only OS X
installer from python.org. See here:
http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.7.1/
At the moment for instructional purposes, I would strongly suggest only
using the 32-bit installer on all versions of OS X from 10.3.9 through
10.6 and avoiding the 64-bit installer as the latter has issues with
Tkinter and IDLE.
Unfortunately, http://www.python.org/download/mac/ is rather old and in
need of updating.
