Use my own data in skimage

Hi,

I successfully run some examples from scikit, like canny or threshold with 
image provided in the folder data. 
My questions is : what is the procedure to use my own data and images ? 
Changing the name of data used is not sufficient, because I think that I 
have to transform my image into an array.
