[SciPy-Dev] Implementing fit method for discrete distributions

Hi everyone,


I am a newcomer here and after reading through #11948 I thought implementing fit option for discrete distributions could be a good start. In particular, I was thinking of implementing MLE + MM (whenever possible). Do people generally think this is interesting? If so, is it generally expected to provide references for every estimator being used?
