I appreciate the quick reply very much. I used the SciPy sources in the 
.tar.gz archive
from  http://www.scipy.org/download/scipy/src/SciPy_complete-0.3.2.tar.gz  .
I'm sorry but I don't quite understand; threaded atlas libs? Do they come 
prebuilt
for single AthlonSSE1 from
http://www.scipy.org/download/atlasbinaries/linux/  (and in that case, which
one is it?) or do I have to build them myself? I'll post another message 
once
the problem is solved...
