I just don't understand the results ;-)
Besides I've a few reasons to keep it linear, and at most twice linear.
Finally it must fit in a small 8-bit micro.
Another reason is that the signal contains a lot of noise,
and I always learned to keep the degrees of freedom as low as possible.
