Summary: SB plug-in affects Outlook's AutoArchive behavior

Initial Comment:
When SB is installed it apparently changes the
modification date of all existing messages in the Outlook
database to the date-time it scans them for "learning."
The mod date is the date Outlook uses to AutoArchive
Outlook items. So this has the adverse effect of
delaying the AutoArchiving of any email messages that
were received before SB was installed. For example, I
noticed that one of my Outlook folders contained many
items older than 12 months, even though that folder
was configured to AutoArchive items when they are 12
months old. Even though the Received Date for an item
was, say, 7/1/03 and that item should have been
AutoArchived on 7/1/04 (12 months later), because I
installed SB on 1/11/04 the mod date was changed to
1/11/04 so now it won't get AutoArchived until 1/11/05.
This means I have to open each of my several Outlook
archive files and then go through every one of my
Outlook folders and manually move items into its archive
file. This is a royal pain, to say the least. If possible, I
would like the SB plugin to be changed so that it does
not change the mod date of Outlook items it scans
during learning. Thanks.

Thanks Tim - I didn't realise that we exposed that option :)

Note that there's a checkbox you can deselect if you want to
stop saving spam scores, in the Advanced tab of the
SpamBayes Manager: click the Diagnostics... button there to
get at it.

This should only be happening during filtering/scoring, not
training (but you were probably scoring messages after
training, as this is typically something you want to do).
This is because the spam score is saved to the message. You
can turn this off if you really want to - you need to add

Filter
save_spam_info:False

To the {profilename}.ini or Outlook.ini file in your data
directory.

Note that this does have consequences - SpamBayes does want
to use this information at times, and will need to
regenerate it each time. You also won't be able to display
the spam score in Outlook. However, it would be simpler to
just not score the messages after training (i.e. untick that
box). That way training will not change the messages -
filtering still will, but that shouldn't matter, right?
