Speaking as a release manager, my approach is that the only
fixes between a release candidate and a final release should
be related to packaging, or critical bugs that have shown up
in the release candidate. Other bugs can wait until the next
release. New features should absolutely not be in the release.

What's the status of the 1.0 release? Is there a bug blocking
it? If it's likely to take much longer, it should probably be
branched off now so that things like this can progress on the
trunk.
