This was fixed in CVS on Tuesday 26 Aug - line 257 of Hammie.py is missing
a trailing close-parenthesis:

>   return Hammie(storage.open_storage((filename, mode), useDB))
                                                              ^^^

You could update from CVS, or fix your local copy of 1.0a4.  Soon you'll
be able to download 1.0a5, which is due out any day now.
