By matching dial-in logs, PPPoE sessions, or even MAC addresses to IP
address reservations. 

I use DHCP on my company's network, and I can easily tell from my logs
what machine had a particular IP address at a particular point in time,
no matter if they're dial-up, VPN, or local machines.
