[Spambayes] spambayes outlook addin crashes offline

I looked in the archives but didn't see anything like this.
I am running xp pro, outlook 2002, and SB 008.1 (latest).
When I am in the office or VPNd into work and start outlook, no worries.
When I am home, I often want to fire up outlook, hit "work offline" 
since there is no exchange server, and check my pop3 account on another 
provider.  This worked fine on my previous laptop, same config.

On this laptop, outlook complains it cannot load the spambayes addin, 
saying:
"There was an error initializing the SpamBayes addin, Please restart 
outlook and try again".
Well, no amount of restarting cures this.  I either have to VPN into 
work, or remove spambayes completely to get outlook working in offline mode.

Any solutions?   Thanks.  Please cc me as I am not on the list (yet).
