Are you using the Outlook plug-in or sb_server? If the former, then I'm not
sure I see how SpamBayes slows the process down - all this mail would be
downloaded anyway, right? SpamBayes doesn't interfere with that process at
all - in fact you can have disconnected with all your mail downloaded and
SpamBayes will still continue on classifying the mail. Maybe adjusting the
background filtering options (in the Advanced tab) would help?

If you are using sb_server, then this does slow the process down a bit, as
the messages go through the proxy as they are arriving and are classified at
that point. It really shouldn't be that slow, though. My wife's system at
home is through a really slow (rural NZ) dialup connection on a pretty slow
machine and I can't notice any difference between going directly to the mail
server and through the proxy. Maybe something's odd with your settings?

Yes. If you're using the Outlook plug-in you'll also need to remove the
toolbar. Please see FAQ 3.14:

Please always include the list (spambayes at python.org) in your replies
(reply-all), and please don't send me personal mail about SpamBayes. This
way, you get everyone's help, and avoid a lack of replies when I'm busy.
