I'd completely forgotten that that file was created (hence the delay in
replying, although you're right the second time in using this list and not
spambayes-dev), which could also be the case with the other developers. It
gets created when you use the "Upload message" box on the web interface.

It's intended to be a backup so that you can rebuild the database when
needed, although the comments in the code where it gets created indicate
that it was designed as a temporary measure (and that a better solution
would be adding the messages to a cache of trained messages). I think the
solutions that would most fit with the current state of things are either:

 (a) Have the two files (one ham, one spam) created in the same directory
that the (last) configuration file is located in - this is where other files
and the cache directories end up by default.

 (b) Have messages added with the 'upload' facility split into separate
messages with appropriate filenames and added to the ham/spam cache
directories (where they will be automatically expired like ones trained with
the review page).

IMO, (b) is the better solution, but (a) is the simpler (would take a couple
of minutes to do) solution. I'll try and remember to take a look at this
sometime next week when I have time - if you want, you could open a bug
report <http://sf.net/projects/spambayes> and assign it to me.

In any case, you can delete the file and suffer no ill effects, and it won't
recreate unless you use the upload box again (which you probably only did
for initial training).

Please always include the list (spambayes at python.org) in your replies
(reply-all), and please don't send me personal mail about SpamBayes. This
way, you get everyone's help, and avoid a lack of replies when I'm busy.
