Pointing people towards where they can find help (e.g. a specific FAQ
question/answer) is really one of the most useful things to do.  It's a
great way to relieve other people (who can work on complicated questions
or actually fix bugs or add features).

It's often not the case that people aren't motivated to get the answer
themselves, but they don't know enough to do so.  Not everyone is good
enough with Google to get an answer to a specific SpamBayes question.
Not everyone is able to figure out what in the FAQ they ought to be
looking at.

When people do that, what really helps is if you reply to your own
question, with the answer that you found.  That way, next time someone
asks that question, it's easier to find the answer (or for those that
regularly read messages here, they may remember that someone had
figuring out the answer recently, and so know immediately what the
answer is).
