Microsoft:
Microsoft's Technical Computing Group is looking for Senior Software
Design Engineers to help them build a software stack to enable
predictive modeling by scientists, engineers and other domain specialists.
Scientific computing is a fast growing area. With the right tools and
the power of supercomputers, a new generation of domain specialists will
be empowered to build weather models to predict the course of climate
change, risk models to avoid the next economic meltdown, and business
models to turn a crushing amount of raw data into intelligence. In this
project, we are responsible for harnessing the distributed
supercomputing power of the client, cluster and cloud in a way that
makes sense to the domain specialist and lets him focus on the science.
There are two different positions:
Sr. Software Design Engineer:
* 8 years of experience shipping commercial products
* Exceptional working knowledge of C++ and C#
* Experience in application development (Win32, COM)
* Grounding in the fundamentals of parallel and distributed computing
* A solid grasp of data analysis and simulation modeling techniques
* Experience creating simple, practical software designs
* Ability to ramp up quickly on new technology
* Flexibility in the face of the ambiguity of an evolving project
* BS in Computer Science or a related field
Software Design Engineer II:
* 4 years of experience shipping products
* Exceptional working knowledge of C++ and C#
* GUI development experience with technologies such as GDI/MFC,
WPF/XAML or HTML/JS
* Experience creating simple, practical software designs
* Ability to ramp up quickly on new technology
* Flexibility in the face of the ambiguity of a v1 project
* BS in Computer Science or a related field
Experience with GUI development (WPF, HTML/JS) and Office
programmability is highly desirable. Experience with technical computing
tools is preferred, as is database systems experience (SQL, SSIS, Azure
storage paradigms), and any experience working as a domain specialist
would be extremely valuable. However, the critical requirements are
strong software development skills, a customer-centric approach,
self-motivation, the ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new
situations, and a passion for the promise of technical computing.
