Thanks. That is very sound reasoning. I asked because I wondered about a no t-shirt late registration myself. I purposely did not early advertize PyCarolinas to the UNC community because I did not want them overwhelming the registration numbers. For instance, when we have UNC BarCamp, it sells out (150 slots) in about two seconds. I've never gotten to go. And one of the purposes for local Python conferences like PyCarolinas is to take the load off PyCon, which sold out a month early and a bunch of people like me didn't get to go this year. Unfortunately, I was traveling out of the country in the days before PyCarolinas registration closed, so I didn't get the last minute word out to the UNC community. I don't think it's a bad thing that PyCarolinas didn't sell out, though. This is a first time thing for us and we need to learn from it. PyCarolinas on training wheels. Soft landings where we can. Having a capacity crowd would just make things kind tougher. Having a smaller crowd might make for a more intimate conference where people actually confer with each other. Thanks for all you are doing and I'm really looking forward to this weekend at PyCarolinas. -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway http://nccoos.org/Members/cbc office: 3313 Venable Hall phone: (919) 599-3530 mail: Campus Box #3300, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599 From ironfroggy at gmail.com Tue Oct 16 17:15:03 2012 From: ironfroggy at gmail.com (Calvin Spealman) Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2012 11:15:03 -0400 Subject: [TriZPUG] PyCarolinas Registration Ends TODAY In-Reply-To: <507D6B0B.7090204@unc.edu> References: <507C13BD.4080506@unc.edu> <507D6B0B.7090204@unc.edu> Message-ID: On Tue, Oct 16, 2012 at 10:11 AM, Chris Calloway wrote: > On 10/15/2012 7:08 PM, Calvin Spealman wrote: >> >> No, but we have to put final numbers in for the t-shirts, and the >> orders for breakfast and coffee. I think one of the great side effects of PyCarolinas was getting a lot of areas on the map, Python-wise. I met some folks from Spartanburg, SC who did not know about the Hub City Python group, and so that fledgling user group has been expanded. And word about PYPTUG in the Triad also got out at PyCarolinas. Regarding PYPTUG, isn't there a second effort to organize Python folks in Greensboro (rather than Winston-Salem)? Who is associated with that? -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway http://nccoos.org/Members/cbc office: 3313 Venable Hall phone: (919) 599-3530 mail: Campus Box #3300, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599 From cbc at unc.edu Tue Oct 23 00:13:08 2012 From: cbc at unc.edu (Chris Calloway) Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2012 18:13:08 -0400 Subject: [TriZPUG] Python Testing Fundamentals Message-ID: <5085C4F4.6000603@unc.edu> I just found out the that the PyOhio videos are finally up. So that means my tutorial video is available: http://pyvideo.org/video/1366/python-testing-fundamentals Unfortunately, as is almost always the case, the batteries in the wireless mic were not working very well. You can see them being replaced three times before it was discovered that the whole box of wireless mic replacement batteries were bad. So the audio is only borderline listenable, actually stops working entirely at the 25:16 mark, and then starts working again at 51:40. Something for your regional conference checklist: find out what kind of wireless mic batteries you need (PyCarolinas mics used 9 Volt batteries, so they aren't all AA's) and bring plenty of fresh ones. I also made the truly egregious error of misspelling Philipp von Weitershausen's name on one of my slides. This may not seem important to you. But it will haunt me for months. -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway http://nccoos.org/Members/cbc office: 3313 Venable Hall phone: (919) 599-3530 mail: Campus Box #3300, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599 From ncdave4life at gmail.com Tue Oct 23 01:17:47 2012 From: ncdave4life at gmail.com (David Burton) Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2012 19:17:47 -0400 Subject: [TriZPUG] Thank You For PyCarolinas In-Reply-To: <50859CE1.1060709@unc.edu> References: <50857BEC.80102@unc.edu> <50859A67.80402@gnome.org> <50859CE1.1060709@unc.edu> Message-ID: It was a great conference! In fact, I think we would all really, really like that. :) When: Thursday, November 15 at 7pm Where: WebAssign, NCSU Centennial Campus, 1791 Varsity Drive, Suite 200, Raleigh To schedule around Thanksgiving, November's TriZPUG meeting is on the third instead of the fourth Thursday. To announce a talk for this meeting, send an email with your topic to the TriZPUG email list. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome. Please join us at our first meeting at WebAssign and share your Python experiences. Plenty of free after hours parking will be available in the adjacent Centennial Campus decks. An after-meeting location for food and beverage will be decided at the meeting. BTW, the December meeting at Splatspace will also be on the third Thursday to schedule around yet another holiday. And we'd like a scheduled speaker for that meeting as well, if you are thinking ahead. -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway http://nccoos.org/Members/cbc office: 3313 Venable Hall phone: (919) 599-3530 mail: Campus Box #3300, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599
