But it is looking increasingly like Brandon Rhodes, a member of the PSF, author of "Foundations of Python Network Programming Second Edition," coder of the pyephem module of scientific-grade astronomy objects for Python, and runner-up with David Beasley for best presentation at every PyCon for the last few years, will be our speaker at the December meeting. If you want to see how great of a Python speaker Brandon is, check out his PyCon 2010 video, "The Mighty Dictionary": http://pyvideo.org/video/276/the-mighty-dictionary-55 The code and slides for The Might Dictionary are here: https://bitbucket.org/brandon/pycon2010-mighty-dictionary I'll let you know more about Brandon's upcoming appearance at TriPython when I know more. -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway http://nccoos.org/Members/cbc office: 3313 Venable Hall phone: (919) 599-3530 mail: Campus Box #3300, UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599 From cbc at unc.edu Tue Dec 10 17:05:04 2013 From: cbc at unc.edu (Chris Calloway) Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2013 11:05:04 -0500 Subject: [TriZPUG] TriPython December 2013 Meeting: The Clean Architecture in Python Message-ID: <52A73BB0.5010007@unc.edu> When: Thursday, December 19, 7pm Where: Bull City Coworking, 112 S. Duke St., Suite 6, Durham Brandon Rhodes, PSF member, author of Foundations of Python Network Programming Second Edition and the pyephem scientific-grade astronomy module, and a frequent favorite presenter at Python conferences worldwide, will present "The Clean Architecture in Python." Brandon describes the talk as, "Python programmers already use many design patterns in their work. Each pattern distills the wisdom the community has learned over the years, often at great expense, and makes it available to younger programmers. But even design-conscious programmers often find their applications growing more difficult to test and expand. In this talk, we will learn about how the recently propounded 'Clean Architecture' applies to Python applications, and how this high-level design pattern fits particularly well with the features of the Python language and addresses questions that experienced programmers have been asking at the last few PyCons." Lightning talks, 5 to 10 minutes extemporaneous expositions on a topic of interest to you, something you recently learned, kind of like a show and tell, are always welcome as well. Please see the parking instructions on the BCC website. A wide variety of possibilities for the after-meeting are within steps of BCC. My name is Bart Jaworski and I run the Product & Dev team at Future in San Francisco. We're a mid-sized publisher focusing on video games, tech, cycling, and related stereotypically "young dude interest areas" with some leading properties like gamesradar.com, pcgamer.com, techradar.com, maximumpc.com, maclife.com, bikeradar.com, cyclingnews.com, and others. Django/Python powers some of the big ones (60 million page views / month ++) and is our focus for all new builds. We're exploring the possibly of opening a small satellite office in The Triangle area as we already have a developer and some editors located there. As part of that we're looking to add a couple tech positions: http://www.futureus.com/2013/10/09/djangopython-architect/ http://www.futureus.com/2013/11/22/djangopython-developer/ We're also in need of tech (both consumer and enterprise) and video games journalists/editors. So if you know of anyone qualified and interested in freelance or ongoing work please feel free to forward along. Both I and Charlie Speight (head honcho and NC native) will be in town next week to check out the area and for the December 19th TriPython meeting. Looking forward to meeting you all. We had eight people all together including two people who came from Raleigh who were first timers at our Raleigh project night just last week. And for the second project night in a row, I got some actual personal project work done.
