From cbc at unc.edu Mon Dec 5 12:40:08 2016 From: cbc at unc.edu (Chris Calloway) Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2016 12:40:08 -0500 Subject: [TriPython] Big Week Reminders: Raleigh Project Night at WebAssign and Featured Speaker Meeting at Caktus Message-ID: We have a big week with two events. Tomorrow I hope to see you from 6-9pm at the Raleigh Project Night at WebAssign hosted by Steve Gambino. There will be Ruckus pizza. It's always a good time at WebAssign. http://tripython.org/Members/sgambino/dec-16-rpn/ Then on Thursday at 7pm, we have out first featured speaker meeting at our new Durham home: the Caktus Group Tech Space on Morris Street. Brian Jinwright of MetaMetrics will be telling us about scaling WSGI apps in the cloud as well as how to use Zappa and Lambda to manage worker processes. I would like to see a good turnout for Brian at this special second Thursday holiday meeting (instead of the usual fourth Thursday). There will be holiday door prizes! The after-meeting at 9pm promises to be festive as well: http://tripython.org/Members/cbc/dec-16-mtg/ BTW, I would really like to have a doorman volunteer for the meeting on Thursday. The door to Caktus remains locked and we cannot leave it propped open. There is a spot where you can sit see both the presentation as well as people coming to the door to get it. -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway, Applications Analyst UNC Renaissance Computing Institute 100 Europa Drive, Suite 540, Chapel Hill, NC 27517 (919) 599-3530 From erik.wiffin at gmail.com Sat Dec 10 10:20:17 2016 From: erik.wiffin at gmail.com (Erik Wiffin) Date: Sat, 10 Dec 2016 10:20:17 -0500 Subject: [TriPython] January talk proposal Message-ID: Hello fellow TriPythoners I'm preparing a talk that I'd like to give to our group, "Multiprocessing in python: how to get around the GIL". I've been working with python professionally for about a year now, and been a developer for 8. I'm working at a startup called FleetHealth, and we're trying to solve some of sticky problems in medicine with machine learning and natural language processing. The email list has been unreliable lately in sending me posts. If you know me well enough, please reply directly to me, not the list, that you received this as a test. http://tripython.org/Members/cbc/dec-16-chpn When: Wednesday, December 14, 2016, 6-9pm Where: Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) Biltmore Conference Room, 5th Floor, Europa Center 100 Europa Drive, Suite 590 Chapel Hill What: Chapel Hill Project Night meets on second Wednesdays. Have a project you want to show off, share, seek help with, or just get some work done surrounded by like minded Python lovers? Join us for our monthly project night and do just that! Don't have something to work on? Just need some help with Python? Show up and enjoy the energy, sprint on an open source project, find something interesting to contribute to or be inspired by! The setting is informal and there is no schedule, so don't worry if you show up past the start time. Whether you are a Python newbie needing help or have an open source project you want to share, come hang out and hack. Plenty of free after hours parking is available in the RENCI parking deck. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. Lightning talks are for you to "show and tell" something you've learned about Python recently, no matter how small. We all use Python, therefore, we are always learning something new about Python that we can tell others. Plenty of free parking is available in the RENCI parking deck. The meeting will be followed by our usual after-meeting at a nearby tavern for food and beverage.
