From cbc at unc.edu Mon Dec 3 10:50:59 2018 From: cbc at unc.edu (Calloway, Chris) Date: Mon, 3 Dec 2018 15:50:59 +0000 Subject: [TriPython] Reminder: Raleigh Project Night Message-ID: <6308C1E0-719D-4021-BD81-D7C2D90F130D@unc.edu> Tomorrow night is Raleigh Project Night at Red Hat Annex hosted by the ever gracious Kevin Howell. I?d like to point out that the first Tuesday in January is New Years Day. I kind of doubt the efficacy of having a project night on that day. But it is up to Kevin. Kevin, would you please let me know whether or not you would like to have a project night on such a holiday. I want your confirmation before removing the unannounced placeholder calendar entry on meetup.com. http://tripython.org/Members/kahowell/dec-18-rpn/ When: Tuesday, December 4, 6-9pm Where: Red Hat Annex, 190 E Davie St, Raleigh What: Raleigh Project Night meets on first Tuesdays. Have a project you want to show off, share, seek help with, or just get some work done surrounded by like-minded Python lovers? Join us for our monthly project night and do just that! Don't have something to work on? Just need some help with Python? Show up and enjoy the energy, sprint on an open source project, find something interesting to contribute to or be inspired by! The setting is informal and there is no schedule, so don't worry if you show up past the start time. Whether you are a Python newbie needing help or have an open source project you want to share, come hang out and hack. Park in the City Center deck behind Red Hat (the Red Hat elevator in the deck goes into the main Red Hat space, not the Annex). Bring your laptop. -- Sincerely, Chris Calloway Applications Analyst University of North Carolina Renaissance Computing Institute (919) 599-3530 -------------- next part -------------- Tomorrow night is Raleigh Project Night at Red Hat Annex hosted by the ever gracious Kevin Howell. The annual SciPy Conference brings together over 800 participants from industry, academia, and government to showcase their latest projects, learn from skilled users and developers, and collaborate on code development. The call for abstracts for SciPy 2019 for talks, posters and tutorials is now open. Talks and Posters (July 10-12, 2019) In addition to the general track, this year will have specialized tracks focused on: Open Source Communities Data Driven Discoveries (including Machine Learning and Data Science) Mini Symposia Science Communication through Visualization Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Image Processing Earth, Ocean, Geo and Atmospheric Science Tutorials (July 8-9, 2019) Tutorials should be focused on covering a well-defined topic in a hands-on manner. We are looking for awesome techniques or packages, helping new or advanced Python programmers develop better or faster scientific applications. We encourage submissions to be designed to allow at least 50% of the time for hands-on exercises even if this means the subject matter needs to be limited. Tutorials will be 4 hours in duration. In your tutorial application, you can indicate what prerequisite skills and knowledge will be needed for your tutorial, and the approximate expected level of knowledge of your students (i.e., beginner, intermediate, advanced). Instructors of accepted tutorials will receive a stipend. For examples of content and format, you can refer to tutorials from past SciPy tutorial sessions (SciPy 2018 , SciPy2017 ) and some accepted submissions . ________________________________________ Conference Website Submission Website ________________________________________ Important Dates February 10, 2019 Submission deadline March 20, 2019 Tutorial presenters notified of acceptance April 2, 2019 Conference speakers and poster presenters notified of acceptance May 21, 2019 First draft of Proceedings Due July 8-9, 2019 SciPy 2019 Tutorials July 10-12, 2019 SciPy 2019 Conference July 13-14, 2019 SciPy 2019 Sprints -------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this mailing list, please click here From aikimark at aol.com Sat Dec 15 17:58:20 2018 From: aikimark at aol.com (Mark Hutchinson) Date: Sat, 15 Dec 2018 17:58:20 -0500 Subject: [TriPython] Python at Microsoft Message-ID: <167b4178821-1ec5-12f5@webjas-vae208.srv.aolmail.net> MS embracing Python story: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-python-made-it-big-at-microsoft/ -------------- next part -------------- MS embracing Python story: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-python-made-it-big-at-microsoft/ From thomson at neuro.duke.edu Mon Dec 17 10:16:59 2018 From: thomson at neuro.duke.edu (Eric Thomson) Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2018 15:16:59 +0000 Subject: [TriPython] Durham Project Night Tonight 6pm In-Reply-To: References: , , Message-ID: Just a reminder that tonight is Project Night in Durham.
