I hope this book introduces you to IDLE and has you
develop your skills there.  Using the DOS box for
Python is way inferior -- except for testing specific
kinds of program, e.g. involving Tkinter.

PS:  yes, there are other useful GUI IDEs in Windows,
all superior to the DOS box.
