Just wanted to add to Kent's web link.  Python.org also hosts a page that
collects resources for beginners:

The tutorials at:

    http://www.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide_2fNonProgrammers

may be useful to start learning the Python language.  You are also welcome
to ask questions on this mailing list; many of us are learning the
language, and are happy to share advice.
