Which OS?

~$ uname -mrs
FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE i386
~$ ls -v
ls: illegal option -- v
usage: ls [-ABCFGHILPRSTUWZabcdfghiklmnopqrstuwx1] [file ...]

'The Open Group Base Specifications' does not list '-v' either.
