hi chris, and welcome to Python! the tutors here are very helpful to
those who are new to programming and/or new to Python.

the best thing to do with regards to your issue is to show us some of
those "different methods" that you used, and tell us what are the
problems that you're encountering with each of them. cut-n-paste the
exact errors if possible too.

also keep in mind that we cannot just come up with a solution for you,
especially if it is for a class assignment, project, or homework. we
can help you work through a problem however.
