No - the plain 2.2b1 tarball...

That seems to be the case, yes. I used the same PyXML I had
lying around and had used with a previous Python version (some
alpha, I guess).

Anyway, I removed everything and installed it from scratch,
and now it works perfectly. Nothing problematic about it at
all :)
