[XML-SIG] state of py-xml?

What is the state of the py.xml package? I downloaded the most recent
version about a  year ago, and upgraded my python to 2.2. 

However, I got frustrated with bugs and was told I needed to use
python 2.1 in order to get SAX to work.

Is it recommended to update both my version of python and the XML
tools at this point?
