Well Apple does sponsor a bit of darwinports development one way or 
another, and it has the capability to build .pkg installers.

Anyway, PJE and I are working on the Next Big Thing in Python packages 
<http://peak.telecommunity.com/DevCenter/PythonEggs> that will make 
this problem go away at some point.  Hopefully by March ;)
