Finally, the cherry on top of the cake, our final keynote speaker - Mars Lee! If you've ever been into comic books in your life, then this is only going to double your excitement. And if you haven't been into them, well this is probably your calling. Mars Lee is a Technical Illustrator who makes byte-sized comics that explain technical topics! She uses art, an under-represented skill set in open source, to get people excited about contributing. Her most recent works are the "How to Contribute to NumPy" [0] and "How to Write Alt Text for Scientific Diagrams and Documentation" [1] comics. Hi Everyone. PyCon India is a place for developers from across the country (and beyond) to get together and celebrate Python. But what good is a PyCon without getting your hands dirty writing some code? Hence, for all Open Source enthusiasts out there, the PyCon India team is happy to announce DevSprints @ PyCon India 2024. During DevSprints, mentors/contributors of OSS projects guide participants through the end-to-end process of OSS contribution, right from setting up build environments, to developing and testing code, to submitting patches for bugs. If you are stuck, mentors are all available to help you figure out issues and get you back up and running! From past experiences, we’ve seen a lot of people start off contributing to OSS through Devsprints and later go on to become regular contributors to various projects across the web. DevSprints for this edition of PyCon India will be conducted at Google Office, Bengaluru. The exact location and format on how it will be conducted will be communicated to the Mentors/Attendees close to the sprints. If you are a contributor or have been involved in the maintenance of any Open Source project, please come forward and add your project. This project can be any interesting Open source project which is based on Python. Ideally, you should have a history with the project through previous code commits. Your responsibility will be to help your team set up their development environment, list out beginner-friendly bugs, and guide them on any problems they face during the event. This year, we are pleased to continue offering the popular Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions and poster presentations alongside our staple talks. Birds of a Feather (BoF) Sessions Birds of a Feather sessions, or BoFs, are specially designed to be informal, agenda-free gatherings where participants with similar interests can openly share ideas, challenges, and solutions. These sessions strike a unique balance between seriousness and fun, providing the ideal environment for deep diving into specific topics while fostering robust community engagement and learning. Whether you’re looking to explore new trends, solve complex problems, or simply share experiences with like-minded individuals, BoFs at PyCon India offer a perfect platform to enhance your conference experience. Session Format: - BoFs will take the form of relaxed panel discussions with active audience participation. - The session proposer will serve as the moderator, guiding the discussion to ensure it remains focused and engaging, and encouraging participation from all attendees. Call for Moderators: - We invite community members to propose topics, describe their BoF session, and suggest potential panelists. Each BoF session is slated to last 60 minutes. Hello everyone, We are very happy to announce James Powell as our third Keynote speaker for PyCon India 2024. About James Powell -------------- James Powell is a professional Python programmer and enthusiast. He started working with Python in the finance industry building reporting and analysis systems for prop trading front offices. He currently works as a consultant building data engineering and scientific computing platforms for a wide range of clients using cutting-edge open-source tools like Python and React. He also offers a variety of corporate training courses and coaching sessions in all areas of Python. In his spare time, he serves on the board of NumFOCUS as co-chairman and Vice President. NumFOCUS is the 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports all the major tools in the Python data analysis ecosystem (incl. pandas, numpy, jupyter, matplotlib, and others.) At NumFOCUS, he helps build global open-source communities for data scientists, data engineers, and business analysis. He helps NumFOCUS run the PyData conference series and has sat on speaker selection and organizing committees for over two dozen conferences.
