Hello lxml, Instead of objectifying an xml string, i would like to get exactly the same object from a schema and then set this object with values. Currently i see this only possible via the lxml.etree or efactory. Ex: #Schema: xsd=" <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <xsd:element name="a" type="AType"/> <xsd:complexType name="AType"> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element name="b" type="xsd:string" /> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:schema>" #XML: xml = "<a><b>test</b></a>" a = objectify.fromstring(xml, parser) print(a.b) test #I hoped to expect something like * z = objectify.**fromxsdstring(xsd) z.b="test" ** #below would give me "<a><b>test</b></a>"* *print etree.tostring(z) * Is this possible? If so, is this behaviour recursive? Damian.

lxml removes spaces and line breaks in <head>

Hi all, This small program: ------------- from lxml.html import tostring, fromstring e = fromstring(''' <html> <head> <link href="/comments.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <link href="/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> </head> <body> <span></span> <span></span> </body> </html>''') print (tostring(e, encoding=str)) -------------- will print: ------------- <html><head><link href="/comments.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><link href="/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"></head><body> <span></span> <span></span> </body></html> ------------ The spaces and line breaks in head removed. This happens even if we place the two <link> elements in <body>. It seems blank text nodes (\s*) between head elements are removed. How I can preserve spaces and line breaks between <link>s?

Determine number of elements in itersiblings()

Hello list, I need to check if an element has any siblings so I did this. if tag.itersiblings() or tag.itersiblings(prevoius=True): pass But I realise that itersiblings does not return None if there are no siblings so I tried this if len(tag.itersiblings()) > 0: But __len__ is not implemented on the SiblingIterator that I get back. So the question is. How do I check the size or length or count on itersiblings()? Thanks! //Henrik

nillable fields

Hi, My Schema contains something like this: <complexType name="TypeWithNullElements"> <sequence> <element name="nillableElem" nillable="true" type="int"/> <element name="minOccursElem" minOccurs="0" type="int"/> </sequence> </complexType> and I would like to build an XML elements in python/lxml that will render to: <typeWithNullElements> <nillableElem xsi:nil="true"/> </typeWithNullElements> But I don't konow how to set the nillableElem to be equal Nil. Specifying doctype for parse_fragment

Hello list, I'm parsing fragments of xhtml/html with the parse_fragment() method. The problem is that all html entities are removed/escaped and the only way I know how to handle that is to load a DTD. But how do I load a DTD for the parse_fragment method? Or is there a better way of keeping my html entities when parsing fragments? It would be great if I could tell lxml NOT to escape/remove/bail on any entities. Any tips welcomed! Cheers, Henrik

parsing html and saving it neglects slashes

Hi there, I'm using the lxml.html module to parse an html page (call the variable doc). However after some minor modifications of the html file I put it on my harddrive with: lxml.html.tostring(doc,encoding='ascii') and save the data into a file! now my original doc has <meta name="Language" content="de" /> NOTE the forward slash at the end! After saving lxml.html.tostring neglects these slashes if the tag is without content. I get: <meta name="Language" content="de"> (no slash) Now some browsers do not display my page propperly and i would like to turn this off? Thx for help! plan_rich

Issues getting lxml working on Solaris10 Sparc

Lxml list members, I am having issues getting lxml working on a Solaris 10 server. I am getting the below error. Not sure what I have done wrong, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. [user1:/home/user1] python Python 2.6.4 (r264:75706, Mar 18 2010, 06:30:18) [GCC 3.4.6] on sunos5 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import lxml >>> >>> >>> from lxml import etree Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: ld.so.1: python: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/lxml-2.3-py2.6-solaris-2.10-sun4u.egg/lxml/etree.so: symbol exsltDateXpathCtxtRegister: referenced symbol not found >>> I have compiled and installed the below versions of required software from source. libxml2-2.7.8 libxslt-1.1.26 I am using Python 2.6.4 I suspect there is an issue with the libxslt based on the error message.
