Help on privacy options !?!
Hello all,
I have searched the FAQ's and a lot of other places, but can't seem to find this out...
I have created a few lists, say 1, 2 and 3. Now I want that only listmembers should be able to mail to the list unmoderated. This is very easy, but I also want listmembers of list 1 to mail to list 3 unmoderated.
So I was wondering if you can tell Mailman to automatically except mail from non-list members, but who are listmembers from the other 2 lists, in the Privacy section. Of course non-list members who are not member of any of the other 2 lists should not be able to post.
Hope anyone can help me... If this is not possible yet in Mailman 2.1 I think this would be a very cool feature...
Greetings,
Matt

Essentially the same question was asked a few days ago (see http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users/2004-September/039480.html).
The lack of response to that post tells me that my "gut feeling" that this is not possible (at least not without hacking the Python code) is correct.

Not per se, no. You can put them on the whitelist, but you can't
point one whitelist of one list at a whitelist or subscriber list for another list.
If this is a feature you'd like to add, please note that Mailman
is an Open Source project, and your patches/code would be welcomed. Please use the SourceForge interface for uploading patches, filing bugs, etc....

Is there a running "wish list" of features for those of us who aren't programmers?

And, here is where you can post your feature request. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=103&atid=350103

If you are willing to experiment, I've made a patch available that adds this capability. You can specify '@listb' in the 'accept_these_nonmembers' field of lista to allow members of listb to post to lista. (A leading '@' is taken to introduce a second list's name. Avoid making lista depend on listb and at the same time listb depend on lista.)
This has been very lightly tested on a low volume server over the past couple of days, but it hasn't broken in an obvious way yet. You are welcome to try it and report problems (or successes).
