Invitation to PSF Trademarks Working Group

Hi Community, Through the inevitable attribution process of volunteer groups, our very important Trademarks Working Group has much less participation than we would like to have. So this is an invitation for community members to help out by joining the committee. Basically, your responsibilities involve reading the Trademark Usage Policy, maybe skimming the old archive to get a sense of our concerns and standards, and responding to maybe 6-7 emails a month to help judge whether we can authorize a given trademark usage. Let me know to volunteer. We'd like a few people who can reasonably commit to keep an eye on it for a reasonably long continuous period of time (say the next year). But it's a low-work ongoing commitment, and is really central to the PSF's mission. Yours, David Mertz Co-chair Python Software Foundation Trademarks Committee -- Keeping medicines from the bloodstreams of the sick; food from the bellies of the hungry; books from the hands of the uneducated; technology from the underdeveloped; and putting advocates of freedom in prisons. Intellectual property is to the 21st century what the slave trade was to the 16th.

I would be interested, but may I know some more reponsibilities. On Fri, Aug 21, 2020 at 8:53 PM David Mertz <mertz@gnosis.cx> wrote:

Count me in. I’d be happy to move from the job-board team to help this out for a change. I feel the job board team has things pretty much under control. Let me know what the next step is. -Rhys

Thanks Rhys, I'll add you to the mailing list right now. After I get a few others, I'll put a formal motion to the PSF Board of Directors to certify the current committee membership. Is the address you emailed from the best one to use for mailing list membership? Some resources to glance at: https://www.python.org/psf/trademarks/ I forgot to mention that we also sometimes handle the "PyCon" trademark: https://www.python.org/psf/trademarks/pycon/ You should get a subscription invitation, and once you accept, you should have access to: https://mail.python.org/mailman/private/psf-trademarks/ We're just today working on making it more formal with a charter. A draft is at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1i56-4vHJHuft3dXFi6Ce-Jy-24EV2GlH6bELmdjV... Best wishes, David... On Fri, Aug 21, 2020 at 1:04 PM Rhys Yorke <rhysyorke@me.com> wrote:

As someone who's worked on this committee, I would say that the questions that come along are often interesting, and the work can give you valuable insight into a less-technical part of Python's governance. It relies on the common sense of its members to consistently apply policy in a way that benefits Python and its communities. Thanks to everyone who's volunteering. Kind regards, Steve On Fri, Aug 21, 2020 at 6:12 PM David Mertz <mertz@gnosis.cx> wrote:

Hello David, I would like to volunteer in this workgroup. Hopefully it'll be my first contribution to PSF. Cheers from Mauritius ^^, Aditya Bholah On Fri, Aug 21, 2020, 18:53 David Mertz <mertz@gnosis.cx> wrote:

Thank you so much, everyone who has contacted me! We have several new volunteers. In fact, probably a couple more than is entirely optimal for the committee, but I am so delighted to be working with new people. But for now, I'm going to suspend the offer to join, and see how we work with the new members for a few months. Yours, David Mertz...
