Actual build fixes may be acceptable, if they're needed to allow people to build from a version control checkout or from source (since they need to be able to do that in order to apply security patches).
However, the combination of "running on Ubuntu 11.04+" and "need to build security patched version of old Python" seems unlikely.
I'll just plead as RM for 2.6 that it's not as unlikely as it seems :). I'm happy to defer to MvL on its (non) applicability to 2.5. Cheers, -Barry
