While I can't check it in, I fiddled test_socketserver to use test_main() too, and now it runs fine when run via regrtest (but does not, and cannot be made to, run as a side-effect of getting imported -- requires
from test import test_socketserver test_socketserver.test_main()
instead, if you want to do it that way).
My question now is *should* it run under regrtest by default? Or should it require the network resource (regrtest "-u network")? On Win98SE, it takes about 20 seconds to run.
The time is not the problem, but when you don't have networking properly configured, it will take a lot longer for the DNS requests to time out, so I propose it should require the network resource. --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.python.org/~guido/)
