Today works; let's go for it. I'd say anytime. On Wed, Jan 20, 2021 at 2:31 PM Clément Robert via yt-dev <yt-dev@python.org> wrote:

Yeah, let's do it! Let's inaugurate a new era of branch names. Today good for everyone?

Hi,
Just following up on this. I'm also in favor. As Matt mentioned originally, github is making this quite easy and with very minimal disruption. Shall we go ahead and do it?

Hi Cameron,
It's just the name -- instead of it being called "master" it will be called "main." (In hg, the default branch was usually called "default.") Newly created repositories at github utilize "main."

I don't understand. Why are we changing the default branch? To
yt-4.0 or something?

Hi folks,
In January, Github is making it easier to change the default branch
name with a toggle on the website:
https://github.com/github/renaming
I know lots of other projects have done this (including maestro) and
we could do it ourselves, but I'd like to propose that we do this as soon as GH has the tooling in place to handle it for us.
If anyone objects we can dig into this during a team meeting or
something, but personally this kind of seems uncontroversial and should be easy to implement.
