There was a very long and painful process, the details of which I seem
to have largely repressed by now (*), that led to the selection of this logo.
This was many years ago now and this logo is widely used and accepted, so
I think it's a bit late to change now.

More generally, I think complaining w/o specifics is never useful in this
sort of context.  So please be specific about what is wrong with it
if you feel that might be useful in any future evolution of the logo.

(*) I vaguely remember a lot of complaining, followed by a bunch of
community contributions some of which were decent and some, well,
weren't; then more complaining and heated discussion, followed by
ominously quiet periods and more complaining.  Finally the PSF board
got involved and paid someone to create this logo.  Or something like
that.  Oh, yea, I think the process also involved Guido getting really
fed up at some point, which is how the PSF board got the job.
