Marjorie Morgan
will be showing new solo works that were developed at a residency at Studio
878
in Chatham, Mass. The works will incorporate music (vocal), text and
movement.
One of the solos, entitled "Flat" is a lamentation sung by the melted Wicked
Witch of the West about the untimely death of her sister.
Cathy Paine
will perform 'Occasional Piece #27' which is the twenty seventh in a
series of solo improvisations, each created in the moment of performance.
Cathy
responds to the space, the audience, current world and local events, the
tone
of the concert and her inner sensations and perceptions. Drawing on over 30
years of experience and training as a dancer and choreographer, Cathy will
construct and develop a performance work specific to the concert event.
Cathy will also be teaching a Feldenkrais and Contact Improvisation workshop
at
CasaNia on Saturday, May 22nd from 2-5 p.m. Sliding scale $25-$65
Feldenkrais and Contact Improvisation: Self Awareness in Partnering
This three hour workshop will begin with a Feldenkrais Awareness Through
Movement lesson, to help us open up to new possibilities and perhaps
challenge
some of our beliefs about ourselves. Maintaining awareness of our own
comfort,
we will then move into some simple partnerships - sharing weight or eye
contact - and explore the complexities of staying comfortable, responsive
and
flexible while moving in contact with another person. There will be time to
take this exploration into open dancing, and to come together for a final
Awareness Through Movement lesson.
Previous experience with The Feldenkrais Method and/or Contact Improvisation
is
welcome, but not necessary. ~ Cathy Paine http://www.movementworks.net.
